Mesilla Walking Tour - NEW!

scottedarlage

Strolls and Stories Tours is excited to launch our Town of Mesilla Walking Tour - a self-guided audio video tour! Mesilla was founded in 1848 following the Mexican American War as the location of Mesilla was still in Mexico at that time, and it was founded for Mexicans living in ceded territory to the United States who desired to still live in Mexico.

Now, soon after in 1854, the Gadsden Purchase makes Southern Arizona and a small piece of Southern New Mexico including where Mesilla is located, a part of the United States. Then during a portion of the civil war, Southern New Mexico and Southern Arizona made up the Confederate Arizona Territory with Mesilla as its capitol. On our Mesilla Walking Tour, a self-guided audio video tour, guests will learn where the Territorial Capitol was located...the building still stands today!

The buildings that surround Mesilla Plaza still look much as they did in the mid 1800s when Mesilla was founded. On our tour you will learn of old mercantiles, where the sheriff was running an illegal gambling game, and where the stage coach stop was! We stroll past the oldest movie house in New Mexico and learn of a long time restaurant!

Hear the tale of the Basilica San Albino, and learn of the construction style of the mud adobe buildings along Mesilla Plaza, and the fascinating story of Billy the Kid! All of this and so much more on our Las Cruces Audio Video Tour Package which includes the historic Town of Mesilla Walking Tour and New Mexico State University Walking Tour!
