El Presidio & DT Guided Walking Tour

Service Description

On this tour we stroll past the charming historic mansions of the El Presidio, also known as Snob Hollow, as chat about the fascinating stories of Tucson's Pioneer Founders and prominent citizens. We will see several works by architect Henry Trost. Next we stroll past a section of rebuilt adobe wall as we discuss Tucson's Spanish Colonial history as a walled Presidio. Guests will enjoy a visit to the historic Pima County Courthouse to hear the tales of John Dillinger, then walk past the bandstand to learn of a famous western outlaw who partied the night away in Tucson shortly before a historic gunfight. We conclude by strolling through west downtown to learn of the last remaining southwest art deco styled theatre and see three buildings designed by Roy Place, two in the decorative Spanish Colonial Revival style. We hear the tales of mid century entrepreneurs and downtown department store tycoons who gained national acclaim, plus the stories of luxury historic hotels and thriving theaters! Suggested: This guided walking tour involves two miles of walking. Please wear comfortable walking shoes, bring a bottle of water and wear sunscreen.
